Sam's Maiden Voyage

This last weekend, Sam took his first ride on our new horse, Merle. Sam has always liked horses but we didn't have a horse that was calm enough for him to ride by himself. Blaine & I bought this horse because he is the ultimate babysitter. For those who know me, know that I am terrified of horses and it takes a VERY calm horse for me to like them. Merle is a keeper and after this last weekend, I am a firm believer in him. Blaine, Matt, Sheena & Sam rode into our hunting camp, while I drove the four wheeler in. This story is second hand, so please bare with me. I guess during the ride everything was going well until Merle decided to take the lead. Blaine flicked the lead rope onto Merle's nose and he freaked out and started running away. All the adults started freaking out and yelling at Sam to pull back on the reins. Sam cowboy'd up and pull back and Merle stopped! I guess he was giggling the whole way and wanted to do it again. If that had been me, I would have freaked out and just bailed. Sam is fearless and I think that is a great thing in riding horses. We all are so proud of him and Sam is hooked on riding horses. Blaine couldn't be more excited.
